A commonly used test to detect the presence of ten different drugs or drug metabolites in a person's urine. This type of drug screening is often employed by employers, medical professionals, and legal authorities to check for recent drug use.
Drugs Typically Tested in a 10-Panel Urine Drug Screen:
- Amphetamines (AMP) – Includes methamphetamine.
- Cocaine (COC) – Detects cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine.
- Marijuana (THC) – Detects tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) metabolites.
- Opiates (OPI) – Includes codeine, morphine, and heroin metabolites.
- Phencyclidine (PCP) – A hallucinogen.
- Benzodiazepines (BZO) – Used in anti-anxiety medications like Valium and Xanax.
- Barbiturates (BAR) – Used in sedatives and anti-seizure medications.
- Methadone (MTD) – A synthetic opioid used for pain and as part of drug addiction detoxification.
- Propoxyphene (PPX) – A pain reliever that is now largely discontinued in many countries.
- Methamphetamines (MAMP) – Often screened separately from general amphetamines.
Key Features:
- Rapid results: The test typically delivers results within minutes.
- Non-invasive: It uses a urine sample, which is easy to collect.
- Detection window: Urine drug tests generally detect substances used within the past few days to a week, depending on the drug and frequency of use.
False positives/negatives: Some over-the-counter medications or certain foods can sometimes trigger false positives, though additional confirmatory testing (like GC-MS) is often performed to rule these out.
