A urine test used to screen for the presence of ten common drugs and their metabolites, as well as cotinine, a byproduct of nicotine, which indicates recent nicotine use (smoking or other forms of tobacco/nicotine consumption).
Substances Typically Tested in a 10-Panel Drug Test:
- Amphetamines (AMP)
- Cocaine (COC)
- Marijuana (THC)
- Opiates (OPI) - including heroin, codeine, and morphine
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
- Barbiturates (BAR)
- Benzodiazepines (BZO)
- Methadone (MTD)
- Propoxyphene (PPX)
- Methamphetamines (MET)
Cotinine Test:
Cotinine is a byproduct of nicotine metabolism. Testing for cotinine allows for the detection of tobacco use or exposure to second-hand smoke. Cotinine remains in the body longer than nicotine, making it a more reliable marker for detecting nicotine use.
Purpose of the Test:
- Employment screenings
- Medical assessments
- Legal or court-mandated testing
- Monitoring substance abuse programs
- Insurance evaluations
